Breast Reduction
vs. Breast Lift:

Breast Reduction vs. Breast Lift:

What's the Difference?

While both procedures enhance breast shape, their goals are distinct. A breast reduction is a reconstructive procedure designed to relieve neck, back, and shoulder pain by removing excess breast tissue. It’s often done for medical reasons rather than aesthetics.
A breast lift, on the other hand, is a cosmetic procedure focused on reshaping the breast and lifting the nipple to a more youthful position. Unlike a reduction, only minimal tissue is removed—the goal is to improve appearance rather than reduce size.

OUR BREAST REDUCTION
Techniques

VERTICAL Breast REDUCTION
(LOLLIPOP)

Also known as the “lollipop” technique, this procedure includes two incisions: one around the edge of the areola and another vertically from the base of the areola to the crease beneath the breast. During this operation, Dr. Hankins makes a lollipop-shaped incision. The scar is significantly smaller than the more traditional Anchor Scar. Dr. Hankins has mastered this technique and performs the majority of his breast reductions using this technique, unlike his peers.

TRADITIONAL BREAST REDUCTION
(ANCHOR SCAR TECHNIQUE)

The Inferior Pedicle Reduction Mammaplasty is a traditional approach to breast reduction surgery. It uses an anchor-shaped incision method. “Pedicle method” refers to a surgical technique in which Dr. Hankins preserves a graft of tissue (known as a pedicle) that includes both nerves and blood vessels supplying the breast. Dr. Hankins removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. He then moves the nipple and areola to a higher position and reshapes the breast. This is the most common breast reduction surgery.
