What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a term that means augmentation of the contour of the buttocks by the transfer of fat cells from one part of the body to another. The Brazilian butt lift procedure offers a more natural method of buttock augmentation than butt implants made from silicone.
Interestingly, people of different ethnic groups have different concepts of what constitutes the ideal buttock. That is why it is so important for the surgeon performing the procedure to be cognizant of these ethnic and cultural differences.

Brazilian Butt Lift First Step
What’s the
first step?

If you are interested in getting a Brazilian Butt Lift in Houston, TX, your first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hankins. During your consultation, Dr. Hankins will discuss your health history, your aesthetic reasons for seeking a butt lift, as well as your expectations and concerns. He will then physically examine your backside as well as locate viable areas that can provide filler fat cells and talk about what size and shape you’d like for your butt.
Once you’ve had a chance to share your questions and concerns and collaboratively arrive at the best direction for your Brazilian butt lift procedure, Dr. Hankins will create your customized surgical plan, and our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your appointment.
Before your BBL appointment, you will receive pre-surgery instructions, which you are encouraged to follow. These include directions on eating, drinking, medications, and use of cigarettes and alcohol, amongst other specifics.

What to Expect on the Day of Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

When you come in for your surgery, we aim to make your BBL feel as comfortable as possible and produce the best results. Your Brazilian Butt Lift will be performed under general anesthesia, so you should be very comfortable.
Once sedated, liposuction will be performed via tiny incisions in the agreed-upon areas of your body, leaving these treated locations contoured and slimmer. Body fat is harvested, filtered, and grafted back to the patient by a completely closed system, utilizing a disposable filtration unit to isolate clean fat. The risk of infection is introduced whenever a container is opened or a closed system is disrupted or opened. That is why we never open containers of filtrated fat or pour fat from one container to another before fat grafting.
If fat is loaded into a syringe for injection into the hands or face, it is drawn from a port on the filtration unit in a sterile area.
The extracted fat will then be injected into your buttock area to give it a fuller, rounder look, as per your discussion. Once the desired shape is achieved, the incisions are sealed with stitches, and the gluteal area is wrapped with a dressing topped by a compression garment.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

After surgery, you will be monitored in our recovery room until your sedation wears off. You will need a family member or friend available to drive you home in case you are still feeling some of the effects of sedation.
There is expected to be bruising and swelling, and minor discomfort will be experienced after the procedure. To support your buttocks and to minimize swelling, you will be advised to wear a compression garment.
It’s essential to follow Dr. Pace’s post-operative instructions, including proper wound care and restrictions on sitting or lying directly on your buttocks for a certain period. You may gradually return to your normal activities as instructed, and with the proper rest and care, you should return to total activity in about eight weeks.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ’S

Your Brazilian Butt Lift will be performed under general anesthesia, so you should be pain-free during the procedure. As you will not be able to sit on your buttocks for the first few months entirely, most patients find the BBL recovery to be uncomfortable but tolerable. Dr. Hankins will provide prescription pain medication, compression garments, and recovery aids to help you through this process.
You will return about a week after your procedure so Dr. Hankins can monitor your recovery. After that initial check-up, you will likely be asked to return a few months later. At every follow-up appointment, he will let you know if and when he wants to see you next.
The full results of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure typically show up six months after the surgery. As you age and lose and gain weight over time, the results may fade, and the area may flatten. The results of the procedure can last a decade or more.
Yes, indeed! Many of our patients choose to combine their Brazilian butt lift with treatments such as an Arm Lift, Breast Lift, and Thigh Lift. If you’re interested in the combination of procedures, please discuss them with Dr. Hankins during your initial visit so he can guide you toward the best-combined procedures.
